Trucking Insurance · Choosing a Broker
Seven tests any motor carrier can run on a broker in ten minutes, and our own numbers against every one of them. Trucking and Uber Black, Los Angeles first, 30 states.
Search "top trucking insurance brokers" and you get lists written by people who have never filed a BMC-91. So here is the test an actual motor carrier can run on any broker in ten minutes — and, because you are on our site, our own numbers against it. Judge us by the same list you would judge anyone else by.
A broker who quotes trucking all day has the markets, the forms and the underwriter relationships to turn a complete submission around the same day. If "we'll get back to you" means next week, the broker is shopping it to one or two places. Us: same-day quotes on most risks in 28 of our 30 states, some in about an hour.
Ask how many companies they can take a new venture to, and how many for a 20-tractor fleet. One or two is a captive agent with a trucking brochure. Us: 90 insurance companies across every line — auto liability, cargo, physical damage, general liability, trailer interchange, non-trucking liability, occupational accident, workers' comp and excess.
Coverage that is "bound" without the BMC-91 / MCS-90 or the California MCP filing is a truck that cannot legally move. Us: same-day coverage and same-day filings with most of our companies — the application signed electronically, the down payment taken, the filings requested, the certificate issued, one day.
A broker or shipper who asks for a COI at 6 am does not wait until the office opens. Us: a 24/7 client portal; you or your dispatcher issue a certificate in about a minute, any hour, from a phone.
The best quote is the one you can start. Us: premium finance and carrier pay plans quoted side by side, so a new venture is not asked for a third of the premium up front when a lower option exists.
Freight does not wait for Monday; neither should a cancellation notice or a certificate problem. Us: 7am–7pm Pacific, seven days a week, and the person who answers is the person who quotes.
Read the reviews and check who wrote them — truckers say what the service was like when it mattered. Us: rated 5.0 on Google by the motor carriers we insure. Read them.
Every broker says yes to everything. A top one tells you which risks have thin markets before you spend an afternoon on paperwork. Us: cargo vans and hotshot auto haulers are hard to place everywhere in 2026 — we quote them straight and we say so first.
Passenger transport is its own world — CPUC (TCP) authority, the carriers that actually write rideshare-luxury and limo, and the certificates Uber, Lyft and the airports require. The test is the same: how many livery markets, how fast, and who files the TCP certificates. Us: several livery markets, same-day quotes in many states depending on the state and the carrier (2–4 business days with some), TCP filings handled, single cars to limo fleets. The fleet markets are where a trucking-only broker shows: dry van and reefer, flatbed, intermodal and port drayage, dump and aggregate, tow and recovery, last-mile and parcel contractors, auto haulers, and passenger fleets — rated on your own loss runs, with mid-term adds, monthly reporting forms and the loss-control conversation that brings the per-unit rate down as the fleet grows. Motor carriers in California first — all 58 counties — then Arizona and the other states we are licensed in: new ventures, owner-operators, box trucks, semi trucks and tractor-trailers, reefers, dump, tow and fleets, plus Uber Black and passenger transport. If that is you, the quote takes about five minutes to start.
Judge any broker on seven things: same-day quotes, real markets for your kind of truck, same-day binding and filings, instant certificates, down payment options, a person seven days a week, and reviews from real DOT numbers. Mohsen Insurance Agency in Encino is trucking-only, works with 90 insurance companies, quotes the same day on most risks and is rated 5.0 on Google — run the list and decide.
For a motor carrier, almost always. Trucking has its own markets, filings (BMC-91, MCS-90, MCP, CPUC), certificate demands and underwriting questions; an agency that writes homes and autos all day cannot keep those relationships warm. A trucking-only broker lives in them.
A captive agent sells one company's policies; an independent broker takes your submission to many companies and places you with the one that fits. For trucking, where appetite changes year to year and by type of operation, the number of markets a broker holds is most of the value.
Open the broker's Google Business Profile and read the reviews themselves, not just the stars: trucking clients mention certificates, filings, cancellations handled and how fast calls were returned. Ours are at the link on every page of this site.
Both. Trucking is 99% of our clients; the other 1% is passenger transport — Uber Black, Lyft Lux, limo, shuttle and NEMT — with the CPUC (TCP) filings handled and same-day quotes in many states, depending on the state and the carrier.
Yes. One truck to a hundred, in every type of operation — dry van, reefer, flatbed, intermodal, dump, tow, last mile, auto haul and passenger fleets. Fleets are rated on their own loss runs, so send three to five years of them with the unit and driver lists.
