Box Truck Insurance

Straight trucks and box trucks — 16 to 26 feet, liftgate or not, under your own authority or on a delivery contract — doing local delivery, expedited freight, moving and last-mile work in Los Angeles, across California, in Arizona and in 28 of the 30 states we are licensed in. One of the deepest markets we have, with same-day quotes on most of them. (Sprinters and cargo vans: see the note below.)

Box trucks are priced very differently depending on what they do: a 26-foot straight truck running expedited freight under its own authority is a motor carrier with filings; the same truck delivering for a big-box store or a moving company is often a local business auto risk with contract requirements instead. We sort out which one you are, get the certificate wording the contract wants, and keep the price where a local radius deserves.

Household goods movers, Amazon-style delivery contractors, produce and bakery routes, medical courier — we have written them all. Tell us the contract and we will tell you what it requires and what it costs.

A straight word on cargo vans and sprinters

We quote them, and we will tell you the truth: the market for cargo vans and sprinter vans under their own authority is thin in every state in 2026 — a handful of carriers, higher minimum premiums and bigger down payments than a box truck of the same value. If you are choosing equipment and have the option, a 16- to 26-foot box truck opens far more insurance doors. If the van is what you run, send it in and we will show you exactly what the options look like, same day.

Questions Truckers Ask Us

Do I need a DOT number for a box truck?

If you cross state lines for hire, or your truck is over 10,001 lbs and you haul for others, yes. Local intrastate delivery in California under 10,001 lbs usually does not, but the platform you deliver for may still require commercial coverage.

What does box truck insurance cost?

A single local box truck with $1M liability commonly runs $6,000 to $14,000 a year depending on radius, contract and driver; physical damage and cargo are extra.
